Magpie. Two for joy. I was only going to paint one magpie, and then I realised I couldn’t possibly have ‘one for sorrow’, so they became a pair! Beautiful birds which I occasionally get annoyed with as they bicker very loudly amongs
Song Thrush. These birds have loud songs with repeating phrases. They are a little smaller than a blackbird and have arrowhead-like markings on their chests. Part of the current theme of #songbirds in #jehanesgoldenthread2024 #jehanesgoldenthreadsong
Tree Sparrow. These are small, shy birds that are becoming increasingly rare in the UK. Unlike house sparrows, they have a chestnut brown head and a black cheek spot – think of it as their beauty spot! Part of the current theme of #songbirds
ChiffChaff. These creamy yellow-green birds get their name from their song “chiff chaff chiff chaff”. In Europe they are probably about to head back to Africa to over-winter. I’ve painted a pair of chiffchaffs filling up on berries
